Problem Posing Assignment through (Re)construction of a Place
Chosen place:
The Ravines on campus
Define your chosen place:
It is a place of significant
forestation and enormous hills. Most of these hills are too steep to climb out
of.
Define your problem:
What it is: explaining a
question you have about the place.
How often have people fallen down
these hills? How many of them could still be missing or unidentified?
Why this is a genuine question
or problem for you.
I’ve almost fallen all the way down
one of those hills.
Why the question or problem is
likely to be relevant to others.
It is a safety hazard for everyone,
especially if there have been issues with this in the past.
Why the question or problem
matters to some significant issues related to our understanding of the chosen
place.
The
ravines, because there is no warning sign or fencing, are open to the campus
population and can seem harmless at first. We must understand that it would be
an easy task to end one’s life in this area.
Why the question or problem is
important? Why should this problem be solved and how could this problem be
solved?
This
could be easily solved a few ways:
1. A
fence. Fencing to block off dangerous parts of the ravines could be crucial in
saving a student’s life.
2. Plant
trees. Although trees will take time to reach a high enough point to block the
entrance down the hills, it is still a plausible idea.
3. Methods
near the bottom of these trenches to alert the authorities you’ve fallen down.
4. Stairs
to the bottom to exit through and walk down if there is a reason to be on these
hills.
